After 95 years, the iconic Rainbow Cone opens store # 2

Since 1926, Chicago’s iconic Rainbow Cone has drawn pastel ice cream lovers from all over to its pastel-colored pink store on South Western Avenue in the South Side. But now, nearly 100 years later, the brand is adding a second location on East Roosevelt Road in Lombard, essentially extending the rainbow to Chi-town, according to a press release.
The restaurant, which features a branded stacked cone with chocolate, strawberry, Palmer House, pistachio and orange sorbet, will open on the morning of May 5 with a grand opening ceremony and many freebies. .
Lombard’s location will feature the bright colors of Rainbow Cone on the inside, and pink and white polka dots on the outside, to set the store apart from its more understated Lombard neighbors. The store can accommodate 50 people inside and has a large patio and the brand’s first drive-thru.
To celebrate the grand opening, Rainbow Cone will host a social media giveaway on its Instagram and Facebook platform with three people receiving free ice cream for one year. The company said it is working to expand its presence by even adding ice cream trucks, although no timeline has been provided. The Rainbow Cone Original is also available for domestic shipping via Goldbelly.
