Mum gives birth to 13-pound baby, believed to be Britain’s second-largest ever
If you’ve been up all night trying to rock your newborn baby to sleep, think of Amber Cumberland, who just gave birth to a 13-pound baby.
The first-time mum, from the UK, welcomed daughter Emilia on April 16 – weighing 12 pounds, 14 ounces – or 5.89 kg.
Not only is the not-so-small baby girl believed to be Britain’s second-largest baby born, due to the size of her bump during pregnancy, Amber had been warned that there was a chance she might. have twins.
“Doctors thought it was twins during the pregnancy because she was so tall, even though we could only see one on ultrasounds,” the 21-year-old told The Sun.
“We heard it so much that we started to believe there was another one hiding in there.”
It wasn’t until the third trimester that Amber started measuring big, and the new mom learned at 36 weeks that her baby was probably already over 8 pounds, or 4 kg.

By the time she was finally induced – two weeks late and then had an emergency Cesarean section, Emilia’s size shocked even her surgical team.
“When she came out, Scott’s (Amber’s partner) face was white and all the surgeons were looking at each other in shock and laughing – they brought me up to me and said ‘congratulations, you’ve got it. had a toddler, ”she told The Sun.
“We were so happy that it was just a baby and that she was healthy.”
Little Emilia was so tall that it took two people to lift her during the cesarean and a third to hold Amber’s body in place so the baby could pass.
Hospital staff also had to procure larger size diapers from the pediatrician and Emilia skipped the newborn clothes, going straight to the triple zero size.

The nurses also asked Amber to have a picture taken with her bub, due to her size.
The weight of carrying Emilia, combined with the recovery from the Caesarean, prevented Amber from lifting or breastfeeding her baby because she is too heavy. As Amber was warned, she would need to be extra careful due to the damage to her stomach muscles and stitches.
But despite the significant muscle damage, Amber said she and Scott were mesmerized by their new addition.
“We are both very happy with our beautiful baby girl,” Amber said.
